Project leader: Bjørnar Thorsen
Purpose and objectives:
The project aims to strengthen environmental friendly maritime transport in selected transport corridors within ØKS area. The highways of the sea need to be further developed to be more attractive, green and safe, and to become a viable link for the flow of goods. Partners are Swedish, Norwegian and Danish port operators and universities. All three countries participate with experts within three defined areas that together joint the project arena: a) port development and simulation, b) Logistics systems development and c), New seaport and terminal systems.
The results of the NØKS project will be used to further move incoming goods from trucks to sea. This is obtained by a better coordination amongst actors in the port system and new improved planning concepts that allow for more flexibility. Speed and costs are brought forward in a recent analysis amongst logistic providers as the main barriers for moving cargo from road to sea. The Norwegian part of the project is funded by Interreg ØKS, The Port of Borg and Vestfold, Telemark and Vest Agder Countys
